I thought I should start this blog with a brief introduction about me and who I am. I grew up on Table Rock Lake, where I developed a love for the outdoors and the lake life. My favorite season is, without a doubt, summer. I love the sunshine! I’ve lived throughout Missouri, spent a little time in New Jersey, and then a couple of years in Colorado. I found that I have a passion for time with family and friends, water skiing, learning, hiking, sushi, movies, and live music. My all time favorite book is “The Great Gatsby” and my favorite movie is “Gone with the Wind.”
Professionally, I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I then earned my Masters of Arts degree in Marriage and Family therapy while en route to my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. As a part of my Doctoral training I completed an internship at a community mental health clinic. After earning my doctorate degree I worked on my post-doctoral training at a private practice focused on ADHD and then at a rural private practice focused on community service. It was during my post-doctoral training that I found my passion for ADHD and psychoeducational assessments. Thanks to an amazing supervisor, Dr. Katrina Katen at Individual Matters, LLC, I discovered a deep level of understanding and appreciation of the wealth of knowledge that can be gained from such assessments. The light bulb in my mind finally went off and I began seeing how these assessments could apply to people’s learning styles, interpersonal relationships, work relationships, job success, and understanding of themselves. After that light bulb went off I knew that this is an area I must focus my professional life on. Many times I view these assessments as a puzzle that I cannot wait to put together or as a mystery I get to solve. I genuinely love them and look forward to helping others learn and grow as a result of the information gathered from them.
Self-understanding and growth are two concepts that strongly resonate with me, both professionally and personally. I am constantly striving to learn more. More about myself, more about people, more about relationships, more about families, and more about ADHD. When I get excited about something new it consumes me. I genuinely love sharing knowledge, thoughts, and beliefs, as well as learning from others. I love helping people discover their strengths through encouragement in order to facilitate personal growth.
